We all scream for Nice Cream. Well, this chocolate nice cream is a bit beyond the typical and contains a hidden punch of nutrition, including antioxidants and protein!
So my kids have been asking for ice cream a lot lately…I get it we all need a treat. Me too! However, I’m on this no-sugar kick and really really trying to not cave and fall into recent bad habits, and the kids, well I think they are eating a lot more crap than normal lately. Eeks.
Soooo, I wanted to make something that we could enjoy but not feel guilty about. Nice cream has been done a million times, for sure. However, I didn’t want to just have it be a guilt-free low sugar treat, I really wanted to make it count! Let’s pack it up with a tonne of nutrition so that I also feel like they, and I, are getting a lot of good dietary needs out of it.
Soooo (man I say so a lot), I upped the fruit addition, while still adding the richness of cocoa, so it will still be a chocolate nice cream, and added hemp to give it some protein. So not only is it dairy-free, refined sugar-free…it also provides a tonne of antioxidants, protein, and fibre. How NICE is that?
Okay, enough chatter…
Here is how you make homemade (and delicious) chocolate nice cream.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 frozen bananas, be sure that the banana is peeled and cut before freezing
- 1/2 cup of frozen berries (your choice of what)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of hemp seeds
- 2 tablespoons of organic unsweetened cocoa powder (vary amount depending on how rich of a chocolate taste you want
- 1/4 cup of almond milk
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
DIRECTIONS:
Add all the ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend well. If the mixture is too dry, add another tablespoon of almond milk, as needed, until thick and creamy.
Spoon into a container with a lid. Place in a freezer
Let it set to an ice cream consistency. Then scoop out and enjoy.
Optional: use toppings to make it more fun…I suggest coconut chips or crushed nuts.
Enjoy!
